My names Ian. I'm based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
I've owned a couple Westy's and done the rooftop tent on my 1985 BJ60 but really felt I wanted a larger platform that was better suited for cold weather (I ice climb and ski) plus had adequate room for me to work.
Quite a few friends with Sprinters, I rented a ProMaster and was quite close to getting a bare one but couldn't wrap my head around the $$ or the time it would take me to do a conversion on my own.
Enter the ambulance. I'd considered before but ruled out as most are too short for me to stand up in. A local dealer had a bunch that had been recently decommissioned, including one with the full size Crestline body. Felt great to have soooo much room. However, at 424,000 KM on the Ford 6.0 I had my doubts about the longevity plus.. at 23 feet long I was going to have to build a new fence at home to park it.
There was a very nice Crestline New Era that despite having to hunch a bit inside really won me over. 2009, E350 with the 6.0. 196,000 km and easily in the best shape of everything on the lot.
I've had it all of a week currently. This long weekend will be my first camping trip. Hopefully I can get the bed built first but if not.. mattress on the floor. Still beats sleeping in a tent.
