I think if someone is interested in finding an ambulance they should definitely let the community know and we'll be happy to comb our local resources!

They're retired at 250,000 km and 10 years. Most are currently selling for about 3K USD. Most are smaller than "full sized" Ambos and slightly larger than a Mini-Mod.

Mine was most recently owned by a smaller, rural fire department. I've _heard_ that FDs take better care of their rigs than private EMS companies. Not sure on the truth of it, but mine's in nice shape.

Ours came from a Marine Corps Fire Department in Barstow, CA 700miles away. Come to find out my girlfriends uncle is the one who wore out our drivers seat while it was in service. I would agree that fire departments are going to be more inclined and equipped to take care of their rigs, not that you can't get a perfectly good rig from a private company.

BC Ambulance service maintains their rigs religiously with no expense spared. Repairs less than 2K can be signed for by the driver... more than 2K needs management needs to sign off on it. I've heard the repairs are almost always appoved because it takes too long to get a replacement rig. Parts, hoses, belts, etc get replaced at predetermined hours or miles needed or not. Tires are replaced before 50%... sometimes less than 40% wear.
I've read some private rigs are maintained to a minimum standard with a get the rig back out there earning money. They're for profit, and they save wherever they can.
